Free Baby first aid sessions offered in Coventry Arena Extra
This week, Tesco ran free, face-to-face baby first aid sessions at the Coventry Arena Extra store with British Red Cross, as part of its baby event.
Mums and dads were given the opportunity to sign up in store for the classes which took place in the store’s community space allowing customers to experience practical, hands-on learning and ask any questions they may have.
The sessions covered what to do if a baby is unresponsive and breathing; is unresponsive and not breathing; is choking; has a temperature or is having a febrile seizure.
“Learning baby first aid is incredibly important as it gives people the confidence to act in an emergency,” says Tracey Taylor, first aid expert for British Red Cross. “While we all hope we’ll never be in a situation where our baby is choking, has a febrile seizure or experiences any kind of first aid emergency, taking the time out to learn simple first aid can give parents and parents-to-be the knowledge and skills to help should their little one become injured or unwell.
“First aid is easy to learn, simple to remember and could help you stay calm and make a real difference in an emergency.”
Store Manager Jamie Tonks said: “We hope that these classes in baby first aid were a real benefit to parents and we were really glad to be able to run them in store. No-one ever wants to have to use this sort of knowledge, but I know that parents will feel more confident if they know what to do in an emergency.”
The first aid classes were held to complement a special baby event being held in Tesco stores. The event saw activities including baby food live cooking demonstrations with Ella’s Kitchen, a bath time and bedtime routine station, and details of how to sign up to the Tesco Baby Club.
Customers can also keep their first aid knowledge refreshed by downloading the free British Red Cross Baby and Child First Aid app. Available from the Apple or Android device’s app store, it will give you first aid at your fingertips.
